Tech Tidbit: Fixing poor scanner images

A couple weeks ago I started noticing that when I scanned using the Automatic Document Feeder on my scanner ( HP OfficeJet Pro 8500), I was getting disappointing page quality, with a vertical line through the page.  It looked something like this:

My first reaction? Remembering other scanner issues I’ve had over years, I assumed it was something mechanical or electronic, which led to the inevitable language one typically doesn’t hear in church. 🙂

However, it really was only a piece of debris on the ADF scanning window, which is a narrow window to the left of the main scanner bed window.   The fix was simple, clean the window (and the bed window while I was at it).
